New York has treated us well. Aside from us taking a wrong turn and accidentally wandering into the ghetto part of the Bronx (we almost got sprayed by some dude peeing in the gutter, and all the 'stores' were actually bulletproof plexiglass windowfronts), we have had an absolutely fantastic time!
The day after we explored lower Manhattan we took the subway to the Metropolitan Museum of Art (Our second day in NYC). While there we saw the gigantic Asian art exhibit, including some awesome Japanese architecture and interior design. We saw works by Picasso, Chagall, Pollock, and numerous pieces by Andy Warhol. We saw many, many Greek statues and busts, as well as a huge assortment of medieval artifacts - mainly artsy in nature, but there were many artisan and textile displays, as well. The African art was really neat, we saw big masks and wooden fertility sculptures. We walked into an Egyptian tomb and saw mummies!
After our Met expedition, we hopped on a subway towards Brooklyn. We got off at City Hall, and the two of us hoofed it across the Brooklyn Bridge! Once we got across, we found a tasty pizza joint and some delicious fresh ice cream (we got strawberries and peaches & cream)before enjoying last minutes of dusk as we walked back across the bridge. Needless to say we didn't get home 'till late late.
After a lazy morning and a frantic dash between train stations (Andrew looked at the wrong timetable on the internet...), we made it to Times Square, Broadway, and Avenue Q! Needless to say the musical was amazing and hilarious. After the show we explored Broadway and shopped around Times Square. Again, we didn't get home until well past 1am.
On our last day into NYC, we went to the Bronx Zoo! We saw lions and tigers and giraffes and tapirs and lemurs and owls and eagles and gorillas and turtles and snakes and crocodiles and red pandas and monitor lizzards and sea lions and polysindeton! (I had to.) We went on the bug carousel and the skyfari and the Bengali Express Monorail and ate food and shopped (but didn't find anything too cool!), and afterwards we walked over to Arthur Avenue and had some tasty pizza. (Aurthor Ave. is the Little Italy in the Bronx.) Then, in an effort to get on a train to the Yankee's game, we wandered into a seriously cutty part of the Bronx. We walked around Webster and the 180's blocks before hopping on a bus at a passerby's advice. We made it to the Yankee's game in time for the second inning.
To anyone who has ever passed up the chance to go to a Yankee's game - you should have gone. Even though we sat in the nosebleeds, we were behind home plate and had a great view of both the game and the city! For the third night night in a row we arrived home in New Jersey late; we pulled into the driveway at 2:30am.
This morning we woke up at 1:00 pm....the next train was at 3:00, so we could not to go to the Museum of Natural History and see the dinos. It's ok though because we took the virtual tour online.

We are now writing up stories and preparing to drive to Boston tomorrow morning. Tonight we'll go catch the local fireworks show and enjoy an early evening.
